Surrounding Thought…..thinking about our surroundings
We are a London-based reading, watching, talking and listening group interested in the ways people interact with and think about the natural world. We meet on the last Wednesday of the month.
We look at examples from across the globe and throughout history, considering the diversity of ways people can organise themselves in relation to their environment. Alongside real-world examples, theories from anthropology, archaeology, philosophy, human ecology and environmental history are presented to frame our discussions. For more info on the structure of our presentations, head here.
We meet monthly to talk about this stuff. One person summarises a reading, presents an idea or we watch a film together (designed to minimise the workload for busy people, making the meetings accessible and informative for everyone) and then talk about it. Reading material and links of interest will be posted on this site.
As time goes on, we hope to have summaries and analysis posted here too, writing on topics and ideas generated by the group.
